Kingfisher Lakes glamping site in East Yorkshire

Kingfisher Lakes is a lovely little glamping site in East Yorkshire.

There are just a handful of tents – as well as a lodge with a wood-fired hot tub – dotted around two picturesque lakes, next to farmland just outside Brandesburton.

As seasoned campers, this was our first taste of glamping and we loved it. We were welcomed by the owner, Jo, who was a fantastic host, showing us around and ensuring we had everything we needed.

She also introduced us to our neighbours, which was a really thoughtful touch and helped set a friendly and warm tone for the weekend (we stayed on Friday and Saturday nights).

Kasper quickly made friends with the kids next door and they enjoyed playing together all weekend – including a trip with Jo to spot some wildlife.

Not having to pack and put up our own tent was a welcome start to the weekend. Instead, we just had to unload our bags into our beautiful safari-style tent, which was complete with a decked veranda and wood-burning stove.

We were lucky enough to have great weather but we couldn’t resist lighting the stove in the evenings, creating a cosy atmosphere in our tent as the sunset outside.

The facilities are smart and modern – with communal toilets and showers, a place to wash-up and a small kitchen to share. Each tent has a barbecue and a fridge – again a welcome change from having to pack the cool box and cross our fingers that the beer stays chilled all weekend.

We hired a kayak for the weekend and wasted no time getting out on the water early on our first morning and we were on and off the lake regularly throughout the weekend. The field next to the site had just been harvested, so we were able to walk between the bales and enjoy the stunning, sun-drenched scenery.

We took our own food to cook but enjoyed a real treat on Saturday lunchtime, when we visited the Grazing Barn – a pop-up kitchen at a nearby, serving Wagyu burgers and brisket, pulled pork sandwiches and chicken kebabs. It stocks cold beer from Great Newsome Brewery and scoops of locally made ice cream. Highly recommended.

If all glamping sites are as good as this one, we might just be tempted to pack the tent away for good.
